Roof cladding materials and methodologies

A popular roof cladding material is insulated composite panels. A composite panel for commercial buildings is often multi-layered (consequently they are sometimes called “sandwich panels”). Panels are available in an extensive range of colours, textures and characteristics. They can be made to resemble traditional building materials such as stone, slate or ceramics, and therefore blend with the building architecturally or with that of a surrounding neighbourhood. Alternatively, they can be used creatively to provide a prominent character.

For an unheated building, a single skin is often an adequate solution. A ‘twin skin’ system uses inner lining panels and outer roofing sheets usually with insulation between the two. A third option is a“standing seam” roofing comprised of interlocking panels. These are frequently rolled on-site into complex shapes that create a striking curvaceous roof design.
